Flickr user Jonathan Quintana loves to customize desktops, and this Ubuntu setup is his first linux desktop. It looks sharp, offers some useful information, and still has plenty of room to work and get things done.
If you want the same look for your linux desktop, here's what you'll need to make it happen:
- The wallpaper from Wallbase
- The Slave GNOME Shell theme for a quick app launcher and search bar, quick access to system settings, and an overhauled visual UI
- The Ring Sensors Screenlet for system status monitoring, WLAN signal strength, and quick search in the center of the screen
Of course, you'll need a linux system to make this happen, but other than that it doesn't take much to make this work. If you have questions about how Jonathan managed to make this all work, head over to his Flickr page to ask away.
If you're running WIndows, you can get the same effects on your desktop with Rainmeter and our guide to setting it up. Mac users can get their GeekTool on to get started building their own desktop, and consult our guide to GeekTool for tips to make it work.
Do you have a beautiful, creative, and functional desktop to share with the world? Submit it to the Lifehacker Desktop Show and Tell Flickr Group! Please include a description of how you made it - without that, we can't tell others how to make it for themselves. Do these things, and it may just be the next featured desktop!
