The Finance Minister Michael Noonan is insisting that the details of a new property tax have not been decided upon.
It follows reports over the weekend that the Troika has been told how the Government plans to assess properties based on their value.
Speaking in Limerick earlier however, Mr. Noonan said nothing has been finalised yet and the finer details will be made known in due course.
He said the only things that are certain are the facts that the tax will be introduced next year and it will be collected by the Revenue Commissioner.
Meanwhile,?Fianna F?il has hit out at the plans to introduce the controversial tax by saying there?is no point in implementing a property tax which people cannot afford to pay.
Fianna F?il?s finance spokesperson Michael McGrath says people?s inability to pay must be taken into account.
?Are they really going to expect the 130,000 families in mortgage arrears to pay a property tax? Are they going to expect people in negative equity to pay a property tax?
?I think that the key issue is the ability to pay and at this point in time, given where the country is at and the very real difficulties people are facing, I genuinely do not believe there is an ability to pay ?400 or ?500 in many cases.?
